BBC Science Focus Quotes Raines’ Kristin Mann on Motivation

The BBC Science Focus featured Raines’ Kristin Mann, PhD, in its article on the science of motivation. The article suggests eight tips for how to motivate yourself to be more productive. One of Kristin’s recommendations includes using the two-minute rule.

Kristin explains,

“If a task takes two minutes or less to do, do it! David Allen’s 2-Minute Rule works because it prevents small tasks from accumulating to the point where they feel overwhelming and unmanageable, providing clarity both literally and figuratively. That check off your to-do list is also mentally rewarding – and that sense of satisfaction is apt to inspire additional productivity.”

One of Kristin’s custom workshops at Raines, Motivation Matters, examines how to use individual motivations to develop more effective teams. Kristin explains,

“It’s a common mistake to believe that others are motivated by the same things that drive you. We are then confused and unprepared when the motivational techniques that work for us have no impact or have an opposite effect. This is especially impactful in the workplace, when leaders don’t take the time to fully understand their teams’ motivators and values. They can miss the opportunity to really engage and unlock their reports’ potential.”
