Joe Hartsig is the Managing Director of Raines’ Retail and Services Practices. As a past retail president and chief merchandising and marketing officer, Joe has led full P&Ls up to $26 billion in revenue, was Chief Merchandising Officer for a $95 billion business, and is a former corporate officer of Fortune 500 publicly traded companies.
Joe brings over 30 years of operational experience building world-class teams and leading large organizations at consumer blue-chip companies in the retail industry. He is deeply knowledgeable about the broad retail landscape and passionate about helping clients find the right Difference Makers® to thrive in this quickly changing world.
Joe is a highly regarded industry leader with strong operational and general management experience at some of the world’s leading retail organizations. Most recently, Joe was Chief Merchandising Officer and Executive Vice President for Bed Bath & Beyond and President of the 54-store regional chain Harmon Health & Beauty Stores. He served as Chief Merchandising Officer and Senior Vice President of Walgreens and was a Senior Vice President of merchandising at Walmart.
Joe has deep experience managing and recruiting top-tier talent to his teams and complex organizations across mass, club, drug, and specialty retail channels. In retail and consumer companies, he has worked across key categories, including food, beverage, household and home goods, consumer technology, health and wellness, seasonal, and beauty. He has managed a wide variety of functional areas, including omni-channel merchandising, P&L, pricing, inventory, digital, marketing, e-commerce, supply chain, private brands, space management, and field operations.
Joe serves on the boards of RITE-AID, Combe Inc., JOANN Stores, and Acosta Group. He is also a past advisory board member at National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), Global Retail Marketing Association (GRMA), Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), Enactus, and past board member of the Boys Hope Girls Hope non-profit organization based in the northern Chicago area.
